This week it is our "free" for all Friday at Flourishes. I love these weeks the most because we get to create whatever we want. I have been swamped at work but took a day off this week and spent some time trying to create this pumpkin. Yes that is a book you see there. It is a very scary children's book I bought with a group of books for my son. It must have had bad karma because this sweet little gal chewed off the cover. They both look innocent but one was not..:)
So I decided to recycle the book. I took off the remaining cover and used it as my template.
I drew out a pumpkin shape ( half of it anyway). Then using scissors I cut this shape on every page. I then used a hot glue gun to glue a few pages together so it would stand open. Then I used the MME Vanity Fair paper that Flourishes carries and the Spellbinders Label Twenty Two Die to cut out my stem. I added some leaves and the sentiment from the Season Of Thanks set that is still available as a Bundle Bonus over at Flourishes store. Hurry the offer ends today. I sponged with some orange ink around the edges of the pages to give it depth.
I cut the Season Of Thanks sentiment out with the Spellbinders Curved Rectangles die. I added a button from MME Rosy Collection ...
I am not all that crazy about this one but my daughter came home and raved over it so I thought I would share. I made it for her new apartment and forgot to hide it before she got home. :) Next time I think I would use a thicker book with more pages to make a fuller pumpkin. This one looks a little puny. Sorry for the poor photography. Lots of dark gloomy days with much needed rain.

What a wonderfully unique, creative way to "reuse" a damaged book! This is so creative Dawn! No wonder she raved about it. And the cute little line up of suspects is just melting my heart. They would love for me to be on the jury because I would vote not guilty! LOL Best, Curt
ReplyDeleteWhat a completely creative project! I love to top of the pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteHow funny! That is the sweetest picture of them. It is almost like they are saying "I didn't do it Mommy". :)
ReplyDeleteI think your project is beautiful Dawn.

I can always count on you to come up with the most amazing things! This is such a cute idea. I can't believe you cut each page by hand. Wow! But it was well worth it as it turned out perfectly! I have to laugh at the 2 guilty faces. They are both so cute you couldn't stay mad at either of them for long!
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute! What a great idea and a wonderful Fall table decoration. I love it! Those little furry darlings certainly do look innocent, though I believe I see a hint of mischief in their eyes!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you should trust them or not.....they may have wanted to give you a chalange to work with and what a Cute Idea you had too!!
ReplyDeletewhat a clever idea, so cute. And they look Innocent to me :).
ReplyDeleteI don't think either one of those cute little faces could have committed the book crime - they look lo sweet and innocent. Your project turned out beautifully - quite wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHow clever of you! I love it! And I can't believe for a second those angelic puppies would have ruined anything. It must have been someone elses dog. LOL!
ReplyDeleteOooooooh, I don't believe for a second that either one of those innocent pups could have done such a thing!! ;) Absolutely stunning project...I'm in awe of your work.
ReplyDeleteWell I can see why your daughter loved it! You are too critical...it's so pretty! Such a cool idea! But what's even cuter in this post are those two little "angels"! They are so adorable. The black one looks like a puppy...so sweet! Thanks for sharing that picture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and creative way to recycle your damaged book (the dogs do have the "Who me?" look. LOL!) Love your pumpkin book. So creative!!

Dawn, what a great idea to make a pumpkin book. I think it is just great. Those dogs are so sweet and seems they are trying to look very innocent...so funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! Of course you can tell who did it, he wouldn't look at the camera!! LOL Great project....
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but the library WILL NOT accept that book back I don't care how pretty it looks. LOL
ReplyDeleteWow, Dawn! I can't get over how creative you are! I mean, if my daughter came to me with a chewed up book I don't think my mind would go there..you know...like...heeeey, you know what? This book looks like it would make...wait for it.. the perfect PUMPKIN! See, I just wouldn't think of it. But it's great you do cos it's pure awesomeness!! :-D
Lots of beautiful makes, Dawn, whilst I have been away. You have a fun pumpkin/fall theme going on at the moment and I love all of your creations but this pumpkin book is especially clever! Hugs, Lesley
